Michael Fassbender is Set to Star in and Co-Produce Assassin’s Creed

Modern video game fans can be picky. There are only a few gaming franchises that garner mass appeal (and sales on a routine basis). I feel comfortable counting the Arkham  Asylum, Madden, Halo, and Assassin’s Creed franchises among that exclusive group. Surely, at least one of these titles is capable of being adapted into the first major motion picture, based on a video game, that doesn’t suck. With the obvious exceptions of Asylum (Christopher Nolan already has the market cornered on that one) and the Madden Football Franchise, these games seem primed to deliver the goods. Halo’s still on hold, but a news release from Collider.com has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed will in fact get a movie of it’s own.

The Amazing Spider-Man – Movie Review

Is it a new superhero classic or a mediocre hodgepodge of genre tropes? Hit the jump to find out.

A mere five years after the conclusion of Sam Raimi’s (mostly) well received Spider-Man trilogy, 20th Century Fox has given us a reboot of everyone’s favorite angst-driven web slinger. When it comes to reboots, Hollywood has a spotty record to say the least. Last year’s Rise of The Planet of The Apes, was a smashing success, while 2008’s The Incredible Hulk was deemed a mediocre attempt. Going into The Amazing Spider-Man, I hoped for the best and looked forward to the nitty-gritty rendition of this iconic character that director Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) had promised. To my chagrin, one of Marvel’s best contributions to the pantheon of comic fandom has been reduced to an androgynous regurgitation of the Twilight series. It was a devastating site to behold.

New Trailer for Guillermo Del Toro’s Rise of The Guardians

Do you hear that in the distance? I think it’s the BADASS ALARM!

There are few modern directors whose work I enjoy more than Guillermo Del Toro. With films like Pan’s Labyrinth and The Hellboy Series, Del Toro has established himself as a master of fantasy-based story telling. Now, imagine a film in which mythical beings such as Santa Claus, The Tooth Fairy, and The Easter Bunny band together to essentially curb stomp children’s nightmares. Well as of today, you don’t have to. Click here to check out Del Toro’s second trailer for the next animated blockbuster, Rise of The Guardians.

Marvel’s Guardians of The Galaxy Scheduled for 2014

Who the hell are they?

Rumors about Marvel’s next original cinematic property have been adrift in the geekiest corners of the internet since the Avengers was released earlier this May. We’ve heard Ant-Man and Black Panther both had a strong chance to take that treasured spot. Well, the verdict is finally in. After some rather entertaining speculation, it appears that The Guardians of The Galaxy have received the nod. Granted, they’re not the most “well known” team of galactic vanguards, but if you click here, you’ll see that they’re quite the eclectic bunch.

The Avengers Crosses $600 Million Mark

Thanks to the hordes of jubilant geeks that attended multiple screenings and the pleasantly surprised public masses, The Avengers has crossed the $600 Million mark domestically. Meaning, in the united states alone, The Avengers has grossed six hundred million big ones. To put this in perspective, the only other films to cross this mark are James Cameron films. Titanic grossed $658.7 million domestic and Avatar grossed $760.5 million domestic (according to BoxOfficeMojo.com). That’d make The Avengers #3 all time in domestic grosses. What was once a distant dream of a film has now become one of the most successful cinematic events of all time. Way to go Marvel!

If you’d like to experience The Avengers in blog form before seeing it a fourth time, you can read about all of Marvel’s movies right here within Marvel’s The Avengers: A Retrospective.
